My Students

Do your parents still have one of your school art projects in their home? How about one your child made for you that you still treasure? Do you remember the pride you had when you created it & the memories that are rekindled every time you rediscover it?

I am a first year teacher who would love to be able to give my 18 first graders that same sense of pride & enthusiasm.

I teach at a Title 1 school where some families are struggling just to provide basic needs for their child, let alone school supplies. With my limited resources, I struggle with finding ways to introduce stand alone art projects as well as incorporating projects into our current lessons. Seventy-seven percent of our student population is on free- or reduced-price lunch. I have students of varying abilities and who come from a wide range of backgrounds. My class includes kinesthetic, visual, and auditory learners. I have students performing below grade level, on grade level, and above grade level. My students love to learn and enjoy working on an art project. The pride in their faces when they show off their creations melts your heart.

My Project

I am requesting an array of basic art supplies to enable us to have more art projects in the class. These supplies will also assist in developing academic skills as they practice math by counting beads & creating patterns, create pictures of our butterfly science project, improve hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, improve their social & sharing skills and many more. The addition of these supplies will also allow my students to improve their confidence, inspire their creativity and express their personality.

This project is important to me because I want each of my students to have the opportunity to experience a sense of pride & enthusiasm as they see something they created on proud display.

Art projects are something my students only experience at school & I want to give them all the exposure to them I can. Without your help, I would not be able to supply my class with all of these supplies, in turn limiting the amount of art we do in class.
