This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember the first book you fell in love with as a child? The book that had you reading for hours because you were dying to see how it ends? My students have not yet found that passion for reading. They have not yet discovered books that capture their imagination, but they will.
My third grade students are smart, fun, and eager to learn.
They come to school with such positive attitudes yet they come from poor backgrounds with limited supply and support. Our students might not get the support they need to succeed in their community, but they are supported in the classroom. Our responsibility as educators to support their need to learn and introduce them to a variety of books is just the beginning. With your help the sky is the limit.
My Project
In our book club students will break up into groups of three or four. They will choose books to read as a group and discuss their thoughts on each book. We will then be able to discuss our views of the books as a class. This helps to improve their vocabulary and expand their knowledge of books. While reading in small groups they are also learning social skills which are very important to their life long development.
It is very important for children to begin reading at an early age as it helps them succeed in different areas of learning. It is my goal to introduce as many books as possible to my students as we spend a lot of time reading during the school day.
My project is important because it will help my students become better readers. It will also help them to find that special book that will capture their imagination just like you did when you were a child.
My students need more challenging books for their book club, discussion, imagination, and knowledge.
These new books will help them to become better readers as well as improve their comprehension because they will be reading a lot more.
