This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My kids are part of a Title 1 school and do not own their own calculators - never mind ones with scientific functions! We have one caddy of calculators so far, but still need two more for each student to work with their own calculator.

The students are amazing.

They come from tough backgrounds involving poverty, gangs, drugs, and unfortunate family situations. They are still in school each day since it is a safe place and are working hard to achieve academic and extra-curricular goals. They have dreams and aspirations to achieve goals against the grain of their community's expectations.

My Project

I am requesting two caddies of calculators for my students. Calculators are indispensable tools in my classroom and students not having their own has affected their ability to participate. We recently received a donation of one caddy and it has transformed participation on a daily basis. Students who once were tentative to take academic risks are being more proactive in their learning and growth as students.

Calculators are an important tool in physics class, but they also give underserved students more freedom in their education.

Having one calculator per student will allow my students to work at their own pace instead of depending on borrowing a friend's calculator. Having calculators will also increase their skill level in math and computation.
