Technology for 21st Century Learning!

My students need laptops to acquire the technology skills necessary to work and live in the 21st century.

My Students

Do you remember what it was like using your first computer and dialing into the Internet? The computers in my classroom are as ancient as that! My students are ready to learn and soak up all that the tech world has to offer yet we don't have to the tools to teach them these skills.

My current 5th graders are expected to go into the job world with savvy technology skills.

Why, they were born in the year 2000, the birth of the new millennium. They are bright, hopeful, and full of curiosity. My school is nestled in the fog with an ocean view beyond. We are a Title 1 school with over 50% of our student population qualifying for free or reduced lunch. Most of my students live in the neighborhood and seldom explore outside those boundaries. Though we strive to provide our students with as many hands-on experiences and outside learning opportunities as possible, it is not always available.

My Project

Through the use of computers and the Internet, my students will have access to the outside world. Furthermore, they will use the laptops to learn research and word processing skills that are necessities in the job market. I will utilize these laptops during language arts centers and throughout the day. Students will be able to access a web-based program called Renzulli that our school subscribes to. It will be wonderful to finally have computers that work and upload quickly. I will also use the laptops with my projector to demonstrate science experiments or show my students websites and activities that they might find helpful. I will have access to an unlimited amount of resources. I can also use the laptop after hours to create lessons, handouts, and do research on my teaching. My students will learn valuable technology skills that are absolutely a requirement for 21st century learning.

Help me make this a reality for my students.

Help me train my students, who represent the future. Employers provide their employees with laptops yet our students do not have access to working computers. Help me make justice and equity a reality in today's classrooms. We are far from having all the resources we need but this is a start. Thank you for your consideration.
