My Students

Students don't have Carmen San Diego anymore to teach them geography. My humanities students need a large, quick-to-access visual aid of the countries of the world as we study their cultures and literature.

I teach a freshman honors English course.

This is Humanities: A study of history, culture, art, music, architecture, and literature. They are inquisitive and always asking "Where is..." when a new country pops up in our reading. Yet, we have no map other than a small map of Europe I bought with my birthday money. Our Indiana school is 40% free/reduced-lunch level, and Indiana is facing strong budget cuts for the second year in a row. There is no funding to buy this simple classroom aid. This could also be used by my junior-level speech students as a reference for speeches on current events.

My Project

My students will have a constant visual reminder of their world. Computers are great, but not when I have to wait five minutes to load the computer, turn on the projector, and try to do a safe Google search to find a map. A simple, classic classroom tool that has been entirely disregarded will make all difference in the world ... as I teach about the world.

Or Turkey. Israel? Then you'll know why I need an up-to-date map for my classroom. This class is an English class, but it's a vital preparatory in world issues and understanding, and their social studies classes later in their high school careers.
