Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember learning math skills that looked like a foreign language to you?
My class consists of 26 students, 13 of whom are English Language Learners.
They are all sweet students who struggle when it comes to third grade math skills. I find my students to be very visual and kinesthetic learners. They work very well doing hands on activities. When playing math games in class they seem to have a better understanding of skills and strategies. By playing these games my students are able to learn in a way that is more appealing for them. As second language learners, my students are still held responsible for taking the state exam.
My Project
By having the resources such as the ones I have chosen, my students will be able to get more practice and reinforcement on skills we learn in class. Since we are on a time limit and many skills must be taught by the state exam in May, lessons and units come and go. However, in my school and in my classroom small differentiated instruction groups are conducted. However, our resources are limited. These resources will provide me with better tools to help reinforce skills my students have not mastered the first time around. These resources will be used to work in small groups, which are better for some students, especially language learners to learn in. My students will get a better opportunity and have better resources to use in order or master skills they need in order to pass the state exam.
This project is important to me because I want my students to succeed.
I want them to become the best mathematicians they can be. I know they find some math skills to be fun and exciting. However, others are much too difficult. I want to provide my students with a chance to be able to learn and master these skills in a fun and exciting way. My students will find math to be much easier and much more exciting to learn with these resources.
