Broadcasting Financial Education

My students need these 6 personal finance videos (like "Paying For College" and "Your Life, Your Money") so they can see the opportunities and pitfalls they will be faced with later in life.

My Students

Why should I save my money? Can't you just pay for it with a credit card? Why should I invest for retirement or save for my education? Why shouldn't I do "it" if I won't get caught? These are questions EVERY student should be able to answer. Unfortunately, most can NOT and I want to change that.

Our southern California school is extremely diverse and the students in the "charity student investment project" reflect that diversity.

I have ESL students or students in the “free lunch” program working/learning with AP students or students from financially secure families. That being said, the differences don’t matter to my students. Their common goals and interest in personal finance, stock market investing, careers in finance and philanthropy is what matters to them. All of my students desire a financially prosperous future. They are highly motivated to make their lives better. They recognize hard work and education will make an enormous difference in their ability to succeed. My students meet weekly and collaborate online to manage our "real-money" investment portfolio, discuss current economic issues, explore career opportunities in finance and learn how to manage their own personal finances.

My Project

I'm requesting DVD's about credit cards, paying for college, financial scams, financial corruption and personal finance because these are important topics that every American needs to understand. Unfortunately, these topics are not typically taught in our public education classrooms. Another reason my students need these DVD's is because I have a few students that will not read assigned text. Maybe it is because they just don't want to, or maybe it is because they have difficulty reading (ESL or below-level readers). These videos will allow me to share valuable personal financial education with everyone, regardless of the reading level.

Imagine “wanting” to learn how to make your life more secure and financially prosperous but realizing that isn’t taught at your school.

Then imagine hearing about a program at your school that can teach you what you “want” to learn. You eagerly go to one of the meetings, but you realize you don’t understand most of the words being used in the conversations, you don’t understand the concepts being discussed AND you have a difficult time reading the material given to you. What do you do, leave?
