Wrap-Ups are Key in Helping Students Learn Math & Vocabulary
My students need learning Wrap-Ups to help them practice their addition and vocabulary skills. They also need book boxes to store their Wrap-Ups and books in.
In the beginning of the school year, I received a class set of subtraction Wrap-Ups and 15 addition Wrap-Ups. When my students have indoor recess or finish their work early, they want to use the Wrap-Ups.
My 2nd graders are such hard workers and are eager to learn.
They come from a variety of backgrounds and some of them are on free or reduced lunch. We recently did a Sub 4 Santa at my school, and I learned how giving they are. They took their own Christmas money and snack money to donate towards helping other students who may not get a Christmas otherwise. One student even did chores around the house in order to earn money.
My Project
I have requested a class set of vocabulary Wrap-Ups and enough addition Wrap-Ups to have a complete class set. I also requested book bins to use to store the Wrap-Ups and also some of our books in. I have watched my students challenge each other to races to see who could do their math facts the quickest and then they are able to check their answers by looking at the back of the keys. By completing the addition class set, I'll be able to hold class competitions with the addition.
The vocabulary Wrap-Ups focus on synonyms, antonyms, homonyms, and compound words - these are all things we work on during 2nd grade. I know using the vocabulary Wrap Ups will help my students with their vocabulary, just like the subtraction ones have helped with their subtraction facts.
I always told myself I was awful at math.
I thought I just couldn't do it, but a teacher helped me understand that I could do it, I just needed to learn how to do it a different way. Wrap-Ups fulfill that need for learners who don't learn well with paper and pencil. It also involves students with attention problems because each Wrap Up key lasts less than a minute at most. My competitive kids try to beat each other and me. Learning addition and vocabulary becomes a game where all kids can win.
