My students need a video camera, including battery & cables in order to record and instantly view their work and presentations in science or language arts classes.
Wouldn't you agree that most children begin their formal schooling as inquisitive and eager to learn students? I want to help to make sure that my classroom encourages their quest for discovery and creative expression while preparing them to meet the very real challenges that await them.
My Arizona classroom hosts virtually every fifth grader enrolled in our district by virtue of the three sections of science classes I teach each week to about 80 students.
I also get to teach about a third of them again in a Language Arts/Reading setting and a Work Place Skills class. These Monday through Thursday classes keep me jumping, but I live for the gifted enrichment classes I get to teach on Fridays to both 5th and 6th graders. Our state doesn't provide any funding for us to carry out our mission of appropriately serving our gifted and talented students with an enriched, opportunity and challenge-filled curriculum. There is so much I would like to expose them to and so much they have to offer!
My Project
After participating in a technology seminar and learning what other classrooms just as economically challenged as ours have been able to do with a single movie camera, I am eager to try my hand at empowering my students with a classroom camcorder. My students love to see themselves and their work up on the screen when I take their picture with my cell phone and then upload the still image. Once I have the capacity to videotape their efforts, I expect them to be motivated to refine their work for a broader audience, from our school to other viewers via the world wide web. I anticipate their creativity to be further engendered as they have a new platform for presenting their final products.
Your donation to support our project will help to make a difference in updating the educational opportunities afforded to my students.
I suspect that having the chance to work both in front of and behind the camera will give many learners a voice they didn't even know they had. It is important to prepare these 21st Century students for the world that awaits them. Won't you lend a hand in this awesome task?
