Who doesn't love pretending to care for a baby? Remember playing "house" and pretending to cuddle and feed little baby dolls? My class enjoys using their imaginations. They thoroughly enjoy playing in the playhouse and playing with dolls. These children come from low-income families, and many are English-language learners. Sometimes they come to school without any experience with pretend play and social interaction. They love to work with their minds and play with dolls and such! This type of play offers rich opportunities for social interaction, using fine motor skills, and practicing reasoning skills. It's so wonderful that play can enrich children in so many interesting, fabulous ways! Every year I purchase some playhouse dolls, but it is not enough for the school year or for several children to play together. A larger supply will allow more learning and more children to explore together each day. These beautiful dolls have ethnically correct features, skin tone, and eyes, which is perfect for the children in my class who come from various backgrounds. These realistic playmates are designed to encourage identification and positive self-concept. All my children will benefit from this fabulous play the whole year through!
