My Students

Could you imagine not having a permanent way to review your learning? That is the challenge facing my students.

I have a kindergarten class of 22 students.

More than 50 percent of my students receive free or reduced lunch. Our school is located in a somewhat rural area of North Carolina. The students come from a variety of backgrounds but have one thing in common: they all need to learn.

My Project

Young children who are just starting school need as many resources as possible to stay organized and review previous learning experiences. I will be able to use the Jazzy Journals to provide students with an organized tool to reflect on what they have learned in both reading and math. Specifically, in reading, students will use the journals to reflect on what they have read, draw pictures of characters and setting, and give details about the book. In math, students will use journals to transfer learning of number concepts, problem solving, geometry, algebra, and data analysis. Using journals as a component of learning is a highly rigorous activity.

The children of today are our future.

By supporting this project, my students will have an opportunity to practice written literacy skills for both reading and mathematics daily. My students will be able to develop organizational skills by having their writing bound in a journal. My students will become fluent in reading and mathematics because they can review previously taught skills by looking through their Jazzy Journals.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
