Carnivorous Plants in the Classroom

My students need real carnivorous plants as well as a place to keep them alive for experiments and research.

My Students

Have you ever tried to teach students about plants in December and January in northern New York when all you see outside is a white winter wonderland? Trust me, it is not easy!

My students are very inquisitive and interested in hands-on science.

Unfortunately at our low-income, small town elementary school, materials and resources are hard to come by in this tough economic time. The kids work hard and are excited about the possibility of carnivorous plants. They even can't wait to take care of them! Please consider donating to this worthy project.

My Project

The students are so excited to perform hands-on experiments and even simple observations using the carnivorous plants and the mini greenhouse. It will be the students' job to keep track of the temperature, monitor the moisture, and make sure they have enough to eat. Some of the experiments we will conduct are: growth rates, many feeding experiments, and timing and speed of trap closure. Sadly many students don't have access to gardens, and this will also give the students some basic instruction on gardening.

This project will help my students to stay focused on science during our almost seven months of winter, as well as help them learn about a topic they are VERY interested in.

Please help us by donating to this project which will provide many years of experiments and excitement! Thank you very much.
