My Students

Have you ever made a mistake with your money? Me too! Students in my school’s “Student Investment Club” are doing all they can now to avoid those mistakes in their future. Students manage real money stock investments for our school and they would benefit greatly from the knowledge in these books.

Most students in the investment club are 10th-12th graders that desire a more financially prosperous life than they currently have.

These students are highly motivated to make their lives better. They recognize hard work and education will make a huge difference in their ability succeed. Our southern California school is extremely divers and the students in the investment club reflect that diversity. I have ESL students or students in the “free lunch” program working/learning with AP students or students from financially secure families. That being said, the differences don’t matter to my students. Their common goals and interests bring them together during their lunchtime and after school to discuss personal finance, stock market investing, careers in finance and philanthropy. My students work hard to raise investment funds, research investments and make profitable investments to support our school.

My Project

Students do not receive personal financial education in the public school system. They take economics, but no one teaches them about banking, credit, saving, budgets, careers in finance or investing. Students need, deserve and desire financial education and my club gives them access to it. Most of us have made mistakes with our money when we were younger and most of those mistakes could have been avoided. My mission is to improve student financial education, provide real-money investment experiences and build a community of ambitious philanthropic students interested in investing in the stock markets. The books and software I'm requesting will allow students to efficiently and effectively manage our portfolio. The investing books will allow students without Internet access at home to do financial homework and Quicken will expose student to industry standard software and common financial documents.

Several of my students are ESL and/or economically disadvantaged.

Most of them would never have the opportunity to manage money in the stock market, donate money to a charitable organization or really explore their financial futures as a young person. The Student Investment Club gives them those opportunities and more! These experiences make my students future’s brighter while the investment returns benefit all of our school’s 2600 students.
