This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Remember those high school football and basketball games - listening to the band getting the crowd cheering? Now imagine there not being any drum sounds! Our high school doesn't have any drums for a drum line to perform with the band at sports activities, parades, or other community events. HELP!!!
My students are African-American children living in a historically under-served neighborhood.
They attend public school in a large urban city. These students live in an environment of high crime and gang activity. Due to socio-economic barriers, my students are often unable to take part in any kind of artistic outlets.
My Project
These resources will change my students' lives for the better by giving them the opportunity to belong to a group that will have a positive impact in the school and community. Having a school drum line will give our students the chance to perform at school and throughout the community and larger area. This will allow them to re-invent the image of students who attend our school.
This project will give students a positive group in which to belong.
In an area where crime and gangs are prevalent, there is a lack of positive creative outlets for our students. This group would give our students that creative outlet as well as a source of pride in our school and community.
