This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever finished a book from your favorite author and thought to yourself, "I can't wait to read the next book he comes out with!"? My students have not had the opportunity to discover different titles written by the same author.

I have the pleasure of teaching 17 smart, inquisitive, and imaginative First Graders.

My students live in a migrant farming community where many families pick up and move each season to follow the crops. A lot of children have to switch schools several times throughout the year. Even so, they always have a smile on their face and they are always ready to learn new things. It is enlightening to see the surprise on their faces when I tell them about things I have experienced, such as flying on an airplane or riding on a subway. Little things that I have never given a second thought are big adventures to them, because most of them have never had the chance to experience such things.

My Project

I would like to do some author studies with my class. I need a few books by several different authors so that we can study the author's technique in each of his or her books. The students will analyze, compare and contrast each book that a famous author has written. They will be able to find out if that author uses similar characters in each of his stories, or if he always writes about a specific theme or topic. Books by great known child authors, such as Kevin Henkes, Leo Lionni, and Dr. Seuss will help my students study the traits of these authors and possibly decide which author could be one of their favorites.

Are there any other books written by Eric Carle?" If I hear these words from one of my students, my project was a success! My main goal is for my students to find what kind of books and/or authors they are interested in. The more they are interested in a certain topic, the more likely they are going to want to read about it. Please donate to my project and help me broaden my students' love for reading.
