The students I serve and advocate for are pregnant and placed on home bound instruction. They are on bed rest or have just delivered their baby and trying to keep up with school work. I personally go to their home and coordinate and tutor all of their classes.
All of the students are pregnant or just had a baby.
Many of the students live in poverty and do not have a computer or graphing calculator at home. Sometimes a school district will check one out, but many of these students do not have a computer to complete work.
My Project
The computer (mini- net book) will be used for assignments in subjects, such as English to compose and email essays. I will also personally have the net books services with on line services so that they can do research on the on line services and find tutorials for the labs in science classes that I cannot facilitate in someones home.
This project is crucial because it serves a population that is isolated by the design and need for home bound instruction.
These girls/ students are already under privileged, and at risk of dropping out. Failing grades compounded with the demands of motherhood only increase the odds of drop out. The resources would help these girls stay up to speed with their home campus' workload.
