Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Art and Poetry Tea..all parents invited at the end of the school year to enjoy the artwork and original poems created by their children. A book that will be treasured for years to come!
A wonderful mix of students, half English language learners, all rich in the experiences they bring to class.
Eager to be creative in art or learning to gain confidence in art. Heads full of ideas sometimes easier to express in poems. What a fun way to teach parts of speech and literary elements.
My Project
Throughout the year I will be teaching students the richness of language found in poems and some of the literary devices authors use to create poems (while still teaching all the standards!).. Students will have the opportunity to learn how to use watercolors, oil pastels, pens, and printing to create their art. They will create an art piece to go with each poem . These will be shared then hung in our class to be enjoyed by all. By the end of the year each child will have a collection of 8-10 poems and art and share with their families at the end of the year "Tea". These books will be treasures for families to keep for years to come!
This project is important to me because as students learn, I want to keep their imaginations alive.
I try my best to teach students some of the "how" in using an art medium, and then let them take it from there. It always amazes me to see that with just a little confidence they can create brilliant things. Poems can sometimes be a reaction to a book, or focus on something like alliteration. When kids are excited about something they have drawn or painted, the words seem to come easy.
