Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach students from a variety of diverse backgrounds, needs, and learning abilities. These students deserve every opportunity to be successful, and providing resources for learning lets me facilitate those opportunities.
Students spend the majority of their days in school.
Therefore, we should provide a safe, supportive, and active learning environment. My mission is to continue building a basic supply store so that there will always be a place my students can come for their needs. In addition to this, I like to find engaging and fun learning activities that give students a chance to gamify their learning.
One of my initiatives this year is to build a classroom library from which my students can check books out for outside reading, or in-class silent reading. It's imperative that we allow our students the time and space for reading inside the classroom!
My Project
My students are so often more visually and kinesthetically engaged, therefore, I try to design instruction to provide other ways to learn and show learning. Students learn in different ways from each other, and understanding my student's individual learning needs will only help the entire class grow.
Often, I have students work on inferencing by using Pictionary, vocabulary games, or other drawing games.
Because I am a new teacher in the district, I don't have established sets of classroom basics, like pencil sharpeners and paper/pencils. I hope to be able to move past these items to more creative items for my students, but at the end of the day, they need tissues, disinfecting wipes, and hand sanitizer, too!
