Mrs. Campos from New Orleans LA is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a digital microscope with slides, a cells and organisms activity kit, a matter activity kit, interactive whiteboard science activities, and science games.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Help us see the world, one cell at a time! I want to give my students the opportunity to become actively engaged in life sciences and physical sciences. A digital microscope, along with other science materials will give us the tools we need to explore the wonderful world of science!
I teach 26 fifth graders at one of the charter schools that opened in Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina.
They attend a school with a mission to embrace diversity and acceptance of others. They are African American, Vietnamese, and Hispanic. They each have unique learning styles and many are visual and kinesthetic learners. They have overcome so many obstacles already in their young lives, but they have high hopes and optimism that they can achieve success if they work hard. They are children who will prove that no disaster can stop someone from going places, doing great things, and achieving their dreams.
I have no science textbooks in my classroom, and the kits I have for science don't cover all the skills 5th graders are expected to master in science. The materials for this project will help me bring science to life for my students and give us some of the basic resources that I need to teach skills in life science and physical science. How can a student understand the parts of a cell if they have only seen a black and white photocopy? A digital microscope will give each student the opportunity to examine real cells. Using interactive whiteboard science activities, students will be engaged and motivated to become little scientists while learning to use technology in their classroom. Many of my students need hands on activities, and the resources in this project will put science and exploration into each of my young scientists' hands.
Your generous donations will make a world of difference for how my students will experience science.
My hope is to help each of my students become active explorers of their world, and this project will help me reach my goal. I see the glimmer of a scientist in each of them, help me turn that glimmer into a shining star!
