Technology is an amazing way to invest students in the classroom. Not only does using technology excite students and make them want to learn, but it provides them with hands on opportunities that will teach them skills they can use in the real world.
My classroom is a diverse and very busy place.
I teach three different types of classes: two periods of ESL English, a period of ESL Social Studies and three periods of Creative Writing for all students. I teach a huge range of students including special education, ESL, general education and gifted students. Having such a range means I have a variety of abilities, skills and gifts within my classroom. I must constantly plan activities to accommodate my wide range of students. My students this year are truly amazing, they are excited to learn and use technology and I know that having iPads would truly inspire them to try their best.
My Project
You might think that iPads are a crazy thing to request, but I believe they could open a world of opportunity for students across all my classes. Here's an idea of what my students might do with them:
ESL English: Students will be able to read books and listen to the audio as they read. iPads will provide extension activities through programs like Achieve 3000 and other reading based apps. Students can record and review their own writing in order to self-check for spelling and grammar errors. Also, students will be able to practice for the annual state standardized testing which will be online right now.
ESL Social Studies: Students will be able to create presentations to share with the class as well as do research for National History Day, which we participate in each year.
Creative Writing: Students will be able to write stories and screenplays directly on the iPad, carry them around to take notes for our school newspaper and more!
My students get so excited anytime that technology is used in the classroom, whether it be showing a video or getting to go to the computer lab.
They will be beyond thrilled to use an iPad and I know they will learn so much along the way! Who knows, your donation might help inspire and assist a future screenwriter, journalist or writer!
