"Kindergarten and First Graders LOVE to dance! In fact, it is very difficult for them to keep their bodies still. My students are highly expressive with their bodies - they react to music in a very free and uninhibited manner.

This proposal is to build a library of music CD's that I can use for numerous movement and dance activities with my young students. The CD library will also be used for listening activities with my older students. This year I led second to fifth grade students through several guided listening activities and the students were totally absorbed. They listened intensely and were delighted to discover the new things they heard in the music. As a result of these highly successful lessons, my goal is to include many more guided listenings in the music curriculum.

I teach general music to kindergarten through fifth grade at Monarch Academy in Oakland, CA. Monarch Academy is a Title V elementary school, where 92% of the students receive free or reduced price lunches. The student population is 88% Latino and 12% African American. I currently have a very small collection of music that I have been using in the music classes. The proposed CD library will include music of all genres - Jazz, Classical, Folk, World music from South America, Africa etc, etc. It is my belief that children should be exposed to a wide range of musical styles from an early age. In addition to the musical experience of listening and moving, these CD's will open a window into the culture, history and geography of many foreign lands.

I thank you in advance for your kind donation that will bring an enhanced musical learning experience to 350 wonderful and deserving students.

"The truest expression of a people is in its dance and in its music. Bodies never lie." ~Agnes de Mille

The cost of this proposal is $524, including shipping and fulfillment ?.

Dear Phoebe, Rochelle and California Teachers Empowerment Network,
Thank you so much for your kind donation of the CD library. I know that the music will be very much enjoyed by the 350 wonderful students of Monarch Academy. They will learn so much from listening, dancing and appreciating this variety of music from all over the world.
Many Thanks for your generosity.
Best Wishes
