My Students

Do you remember sitting in hard, uncomfortable chairs? Were you told to keep all four chair legs on the floor? Did you fidget while trying to get comfortable? Not only will stability balls take care of these problems, they will also improve focus, attention, strengthen core muscles and improve posture.

We are a Wisconsin public school with students of diverse ethnic and social-economic backgrounds.

My second graders are typical seven and eight-year-old kids with lots of energy. They enjoy learning, but their constant fidgeting, rocking back on chair legs, kneeling on chair seats and sometimes even falling out of chairs tends to get in the way of staying focused on the task at hand.

My Project

Young children need movement to learn, and teachers need students to complete their work! Stability balls allow students to do both. Their “active sitting” enhances learning without distracting other students. Teachers who use stability balls as alternative seating to traditional chairs in their classrooms have also reported these benefits. -Improved attention and concentration -Improved learning through movement -Improved posture due to strengthened core muscles -Improved balance and coordination
