Heat Advisory

My students need water bottles and flavored mix stick packs to promote hydration.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Teachers and students there is a heat advisory, so there will be no outdoor recess today," the principal announced over the loudspeaker. We have only been in school for 15 days and this is the third day we have heard this announcement (my students are keeping count)!!!

My 32 4th graders and I live in Arizona and today the temperature high was 114 degrees Fahrenheit.

Some of the dangerous effects of the heat are heat cramps, heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and dehydration. Students who are not hydrated properly may have trouble staying focused. They also may make the choice to drink soda or other high sucrose drinks such as artificially flavored fruit juices instead of water. When I saw the funding opportunity from FEED USA, I thought my students deserve a chance to be healthy and hydrated.

My Project

I have tried to think ahead because I know some of my students would rather drink soda and juice than water. The flavored mix packs will give my students a chance to experiment with healthier alternatives to soda and juice. Since I do not have a water fountain/sink in my classroom, the reusable water bottles will help my students have easy access to water. Providing students with their own refillable water bottle is not only environmentally friendly, but also encourages my students to stay hydrated and healthy in order to reach their full potential.

I would like to keep my students healthy and hydrated, by ensuring that every student has a reusable water bottle.

As you know, dehydration can keep kids from being as fast and as sharp as they would like to be. Keeping water bottles handy daily, with the weather we are exposed to, is an important part of staying healthy. Help students get the materials they need to reach their full potential.
