Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a high poverty school district. There are many students here who, despite their family circumstances, want to go to college and earn study science-related degrees. Learning to use up-to-date technology will help prepare them for the science labs in college.

My students are so energetic and bright.

They are hungry for hands on activities and are fascinated with science. Our school has financial challenges but the teachers here care tremendously about our students. The students know we don't have all the equipment we would like to have but they are so thrilled when we get to use what they call "real world" science equipment.

My Project

We perform many different investigation when we are studying acid-base chemistry. Litmus paper is good for the "Is it an acid or a base" question, but being able to have a digital reading of the pH of a substance helps us learn about the nature of acids and bases and helps up to perform calculations concerning our findings.

We still make cabbage juice indicator solution to show a color change with and acid or a base.

This is fine for lower grade levels but my pre-AP students are beyond that. They need technology because they know it's in their future.
