This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students were learning about fire safety in the science lab and we do not have a fire blanket to show them what to do in case of a fire. We also do not have any lab aprons to protect students' clothing when they do labs.

My students are 7th and 8th graders who love to do hands-on activities in science!!

They are inspired by doing labs that deal with chemicals. We also do labs that deal with force and motion, earth, biology, and energy. Most of them come from low income families who sometimes have never experienced these labs before. They are to know how to use fire safety equipment but our school does not have any for our labs.

My Project

When we do labs, we have to reuse plastic aprons that have been used before. Students can't tie the aprons tightly because when they do it gets into a knot and then the apron must be torn. Students also need to know about fire safety in case of an accidental fire in the lab. Most have never seen a fire blanket or the proper way to use it.

The fire safety blankets will be beneficial to the students to know what to do in case of a fire in the lab.

The aprons will be sturdy and washable to use over and over again and we will be able to use them for years!
