Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Each day, I have the joy of greeting a classroom of 12 smiling faces that love learning, but struggle with reading. Their lack of coping skills, coupled with their learning challenges, make reading difficult at times.

We are a large school community of special education students including students with emotional disturbance as well as students diagnosed on the autism spectrum.

My students are classified as emotionally disturbed and learning disabled. There are 12 students in my class. Each and every one of them is a lifelong learner who needs encouragement and guidance to regulate their emotions.

My Project

I am requesting levels L-O of a classroom library set for my students. Most of us are reading below our grade level (fourth) and need an extensive library to meet our grade level standards. This variety of leveled books will allow my students to flourish and have access to incredible titles that are engaging and will foster a love for reading!

I have been a special educator for 7 years.

Countless times I see students that come in our schools with low level literacy skills and leave our skill with low level literacy skills. My students already have one battle to overcome in life, a disability. A lack of proper reading materials should not be another battle they must overcome to become high level readers and literacy rich individuals!

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
