This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are struggling to pass the California High School Exit Exam. They need to read books that will inspire them.

My students are a diverse group of high school seniors that are struggling to graduate high school.

They attend an urban public high school in California with limited funding for classroom books. They need to be inspired by books that relate to their own lives.

My Project

My students need to read Jimmy Santiago Baca's Stories from the Edge to understand that their own struggles with literacy can be overcome and that they too can achieve through education. They will be inspired by the accompanying DVD to hear Jimmy tell of his own struggles and how he overcome them through reading and writing.

Your donation will help my students by exposing them to literature written by someone with his own literacy struggles.

Reading Jimmy's stories will inspire them to push through their last year of high school.
