My students need 21 copies of 3 Spanish language book titles "Tu mama es una llama?", "C mo van a la escuela los dinosaurios?", and "Leo, el Retono Tardio", and 5 copies of "Corduroy".

My Students

Knowing that most of the world's inhabitants are multilingual, and being multilingual myself, I am passionate about teaching a Spanish Immersion classroom. However, most of my students do not have books at home in the language of their classroom instruction - Spanish.

I teach an incredibly vibrant and curious group of first-graders from various backgrounds in a Spanish Dual-Immersion classroom in Northern California.

Although I fill a 'hard-to-staff position' located in a 'hard-to-staff school,' my students wouldn't portray this at all; they are vivacious, fun, and incredibly eager to fill their brains!

My Project

I've requested 21 copies of 3 of our class's favorite books and (5 copies of another favorite, because I already have 16 copies) so that my students not only are able to take books home to read every night, but also so that I can build more of a home-to-school connection. Buy taking home our favorite books, students will be reminded of academic conversations in the classroom. These are my students' favorite stories, and I'm positive they would read them over and over if they had them at home and at their disposal whenever they wanted!

Many times when I ask students or their parents what they read the night before at home, I hear "Well, we don't have many books in Spanish, and we don't know where to find them." Even living in Spanish-speaking neighborhoods, my students' families are unable to find a source for Spanish books.

By contributing to this project, you will make possible what should be true for every child - the ability to practice their reading skills at home and fall in love with reading!!!
