Mr. Gordon's classroom raised $299

4th Grade Classroom

My students need 30 owl pellet kits to learn about the food web.

My Students

We don't want to read about the food web, we want to experience the food web first hand.

I teach 4th grade in a low-income, high need community.

I teach in California. The school is a diverse one. Some of our students' parents are in the coast guard. Others live in transitional housing for homeless families. The vast majority of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch. My classroom is a community of bright and enthusiastic young learners. I feel thankful every day for the opportunity to help their minds grow.

My Project

In fourth grade we study the food web, learning how animals consume and are consumed by each other. This kit includes everything we need to dissect our own owl pellets. We'll find out firsthand the kind of things that owls eat. The hands-on experience of dissecting our own owl pellets will help our learning to come alive.

My students are at their most engaged when they are exploring the world firsthand.

Every year we learn about the food web and how living things interact by studying pictures and diagrams in our science books. This year I'd like to do something different; I'd like for my students to find out what the owl, a predatory bird, eats to survive.
