Molecularly Modeling Chemistry

My students need 9 molecular model kits to understand the concept of bonding.

My Students

Can you picture it all in your head? I can't and my students can't either.

I teach Chemistry and Honors Chemistry in a rural, low-income mountain community in North Carolina.

Giving my students a true, hands-on lab experience is critical, but difficult due to budget reasons and the economy so getting the equipment to do this is difficult.

My Project

Bonding is such a difficult topic in Chemistry even for the higher level students. These molecular model kits allow my students to see how atoms bond in different ways to form three dimensional molecules. Just drawing the bonds on paper does not give this topic justice and is more difficult for them to understand.

I am trying to prepare my students to not only understand Chemistry, but to possibly study science further in college.

The more hands-on activities that they are engaged in will get them more excited about science and more comfortable with the topics being taught. Any help is appreciated!
