My students need 10 Whitewings classroom kits to build their own gliders while studying a unit of flight.

My Students

Students will learn the basics of flight and apply their knowledge to build a glider, hot air balloon, helicopter, and rubber band plane.

The 525 students are attending Project Lead the Way classes for middle school students in order to learn more about the field of engineering.

In three years time, they will learn about: flight and space, robotics and automation, design and modeling, and energy and the environment.

My Project

The students will be able to take the glider kits, make adaptations to them, and test for distance. They will reevaluate their decisions on their gliders several times in order to make the best glider they can make. Students will measure for height and distance. They will go through the engineering design process.

This project will reach approximately 525 students throughout the school year.

It is a project-based learning model and applies the principles of engineering. Students will record all designs and changes in their engineering notebook.
