My Students

I am a full-time Speech Teacher for a low performing school in a high-need community with a large special education population. We have multiple special day classes to serve these needs. Each of these classes provide for children with a variety of special needs.

A large number of our students are non-verbal or have low communication skills, so we teach using communication devices and through visuals.

Visuals with different textures or ones that are larger than usual are particularly stimulating to the students.

My Project

We had a POP-interactive learning grant fulfilled about two years ago. During that time, the students have used and loved the books provided. However, now its time for some new titles as many of the students have come to memorize the stories we currently have so we want to enlarge our interactive Library!

The interactive nature of the pop up books will help the students to remain engaged and catch their attention.
