My Students

Working with deaf students for many years, one thing I have noticed is that they are always a few seconds behind their hearing peers when answering questions because the interpreter is always a few seconds behind. I want to level the playing field.

I work with the best students on Earth.

They are kind. They are polite. They work so hard. They are just like any other student except they can't hear. They don't need pity. They need experiences. They need language. They need attention. They need support. They need teachers who treat them just like any other student, but at the same time, they need just those few extra seconds to process information. Those few seconds can give a student a bit more self-esteem as they see they were the "first" to raise their hand or the "first" to answer a question.

My Project

I do work with the best students on Earth. I work with students who want to learn. I work with students who want to succeed. The individual response systems I am requesting will allow my students to improve their literacy skills while they read the questions on their units. The systems will allow them to develop their conceptual language as they build vocabulary. The systems will allow them an opportunity to retain more information. These systems can be used in all classes with all subject areas and for an entire school year.

I truly do work with some of the best students on Earth.

To me, there is nothing better in the world than to see the light in a child's eyes when they finally "get it" after struggling with a difficult concept. I want nothing more than to see that light, watch them sign "understand", and experience their feeling of success.
