My Students

"Scholars read the great works of the world, but you and I must learn to read the world itself". This quote by Linda Sue Park is the challenge that today's science students face. Technology is essential in reading the natural world, and for that reason it is also essential in science education.

My students are no different than many others...they have the abilities and aspirations to do well, and there is much they can achieve when they are given guidance and support.

However, due to limited resources they often do not get to use the tools of the trade.

My Project

The tool that I am requesting is called a Vernier Lab Quest (see http://www.vernier.com/labquest/ ). This touch-screen hand-held interface allows students to use actual lab sensors very much like those used in working world chemical labs. It takes data from the sensors and displays it in real time on the touch screen or a computer monitor. This allows for both in classroom work and field work.

I hope to be able to provide all my students with this and other technology so that they can better understand chemistry, experience more real-world technology, and be better prepared for college level studies.
