My Students

More than skin deep! Utilizing all the senses to bring the world of animals to the surface allows the student to understand the inner workings of the cat. Gaining knowledge of the systems only moves us closer to healthy pets.

Students from eight different schools come together to explore the animal world in our veterinary science career program.

Some travel 50 minutes one way to class each day. The commitment is strong and desire to learn is high as students obtain certification/dual credits and many move on to pursue higher education in the veterinary field. It is my honor to be blessed with such an outstanding group of young people who will make a difference in our world one animal at a time.

My Project

The 2 week long cat dissection lab, which will be assisted by local veterinarians, combines the science of the animal with the practical application in veterinary medicine. Students can learn the muscles, bones, systems and then through the eyes of our veterinarians explore the workings and movement within those animal parts. Example: What muscles contract when the cat jumps on a prey? When the prey is eaten, how does it move throughout the cat's body in order to make energy? Bringing the animal to life!

The cat dissection experience can then be translated to other animals including the human.

This knowledge can help my students see the value in their own bodies and the need for care of ones self. Without the support of others, the budget will allow only 2 cats per class and the hands-on experience will be lost.
