My Students

Can you imagine a world where the only thing you knew about computers was video gaming and social networking? There is so much more to the World Wide Web and my kids are limited in their exposure to what's on the web.

Our school is a Title 1 school in a seasonal, tourist based economy.

Most of my students are from low income families whose parent(s) work low paying, seasonal jobs. For many of them, they already depend on government assistance and technology is not a high priority for their families. Our school serves Pre-K through 4th grade with almost 10% of our student population being from non-English speaking families.

My Project

I would love to take my kids on virtual field trips to expose them to Social Studies and Science experiences they otherwise would not have. A projector would allow me to motivate students through on-line games and activities to teach and strengthen skills. Many of our students have not been exposed to cultural and historical events. Even something as simple as the Fourth of July is seen only as a time for fireworks and cookouts. A virtual field trip to colonial times would be great!

Limited resources, limited time, limited parental involvement all lead to students who are missing out on the technological resources that can inspire and motivate them to become strong learners and better leaders.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
