Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

As a young child many students read the story "Zin Zin a Violin" and dream of one day playing an instrument. Many of these students will unfortunately never be able to turn this dream into reality. With your generous donation you will enable that dream to become a reality in many student's lives.

The students in our district come from many different backgrounds both economically and ethnically.

We have a long history of producing musical excellence in this district despite the disadvantageous background from which many students begin. In this specific building students can play string instruments in grades 4-6. Many of these students can not afford to rent their own instruments despite their immense musical talents. Our district has a very limited supply of instruments and many of these young students never see their potential fulfilled. These students are absolutely thrilled when they receive a new string instrument! Their excitement can be likened to receiving a Christmas present from Santa!

My Project

The violins that I am requesting are of varying sizes so that it can be a perfect fit for any students that wish to pursue music. Your donation will also give our students the gift of music which in my opinion is a gift that is truly priceless. These students will be able to use a quality violin that fits their body size and receive different sizes as their body grows. I have also requested a hard cello case to better protect our cellos that we already have. These children often live in tough neighborhoods and to quote the comedian Rob Peruvian, "you are like a wounded gazelle on the Serengeti". The hard cases would ensure that no cellos will fall prey to the "lions" in these rough neighborhoods. With teacher instructed lessons you will be helping students improve intelligence, discipline, relieve stress, give them a sense of achievement, and of course provide fun!

Music is a gift that is truly priceless.

I hope that you can imagine the pure joy that you would provide a student when they open the violin case for the first time. This moment of joy is only the first of many to come during their lifetime. Their "joyful noise" started with a dream; a dream that may have began when the students heard Zin Zin a Violin for the first time. Thanks to you these students can "Dream the Impossible Dream" no matter what their background and see it become reality.
