This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Remember the first time you watched a movie that you really loved? The tingle in your spine as the music came on. Well, my students are aspiring filmmakers trying to make those films. And we need a good classroom DVD player that will let us show them to peers and visitors.

My students are 7th graders.

They come from a low income community and are looking to excel in digital media. They're fun, motivated, interested in media, and willing to try new things. They put up with my craziness every day and are even brave enough to go along with my crazy ideas. They are the best!

My Project

We show our classroom films on an old TV from the library. The VHS player attached sometimes jams so I need to use a knife to get the tape out. The TV makes a lot of noise and the picture is fuzzy. Sometimes, if I rub my feet on the carpet and 'shock' myself on the tv, the picture clears up. Seriously. A new DVD player will allow me to show the kids how to burn their movies on DVD and let me show their films to the class without my daily shock. And it will open up so many recent film resources that I simply cannot use right now.

This is important because I just added up the receipts.

I spent nearly 100 dollars to start the school year. I love the kids, I love my job, but I need some help. Films tell us stories, and make us laugh and cry. But what good are they if we have nowhere to watch. Give us the chance to turn our classroom into the movie theater - even if just for a little while!
