Where has Science gone in our elementary schools? Where has Social Studies gone? Our schools are nothing like what I remember. I remember Science & Social Studies being an intricate part of our schooling experience. That is not the case now. My kids DO NOT have Science & Social Studies materials

I teach in an urban school in a very large city.

60% of the students from my school come from foster homes. My kids are awesome kids, they just have had really tough lives...and they're only ten years old. Apparently Science & Social Studies isn't too high on the priority list of this area. Science & Social Studies is rarely taught to these kids. I find this extremely disturbing. I wish that I could buy each of these kids everything they need to succeed in fourth grade/elementary school/life...but I cannot. Please help me introduce Science & Social Studies to my 10-year olds.

My Project

The Weekly Readers will introduce my students to the world of Science & Social Studies in an interesting & hands-on style. Each student will be responsible for all of the content within each Reader, however they will also be responsible for sharing & caring for the Readers with the other two fourth grade classes. This may be an issue, but I'm excited for the challenge.

Please help me break this vicious cycle.

Science & Social Studies CANNOT be neglected. My students deserve the right to be introduced to these vital subjects. I want to be the teacher to change these kids lives. I am begging for your help.
