My Students

Have you ever looked at a butterfly wing up close? Under a microscope? A microscope would allow the students to examine the fine details and delicate structures of plant and animal life around them. They would be able to study and compare different parts of living and non-living things.

My class of six and seven year olds is made up of future scientists, writers, politicians, and community helpers.

They attend a small Montessori Charter school in Georgia. Our school receives little funding, and even though we have STRONG parent support, we are still lacking in some materials.

My Project

I plan to use keep the microscope in the Science area of our classroom where trays of fossils, teeth, bones, and shells are constantly handled by young hands. The microscope would allow the students to examine their nature finds up-close. This would encourage students to make scientific illustrations, make comparisons between different items and feed their curiosity about the world around them.
