This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"It's kind of fun to do the impossible" Walt Disney said, and my students apply this quote in my classroom and reach for the stars every day.
My students are funny, sweet and energetically inquisitive.
They are 9th graders and just starting on the great adventure called high school. It is a year of great growth and change as they adjust to the rigors of high school and start to realize their potentials.
My Project
My students will be using these markers and post-it easel pads and create presentations of their mathematics projects to share with their peers and parents. It is their time to shine. They learn to collaborate, strengthen public speaking skills and to understand the language of mathematics.
My students get to discover real world applications of mathematics, for example which cell phone plan is the best.
They learn to love it again as they did in elementary school. They work as a group, then they display their work in a gallery walk setting. This allows them to gain skills in constructive criticism, multiple representations (graphing, algebraic expressions, sentences and table values), career skills (public speaking, etc.), team building, leadership and savvy consumers.
