"A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops." - Henry B. Adams
Being a 7th grade science teacher can be one of the most exciting and rewarding jobs there is.
Students at my school have seen science come alive when teachers allow them to get involved with what they are learning. It is amazing to see the excitement in their eyes when they understand or when they see something that they have never seen before. My students can truly learn when they are able to be involved and completely engaged in their subject.
Unfortunately, these opportunities are limited because funds in our district have been cut. No longer is there money available to purchase the supplies needed for these types of engaging labs.
My Project
One such lab that my students learn so much from each year is the fetal pig dissection. Each year we study human anatomy and body systems. Students love this unit because they can relate to it and learn about themselves. But the one thing that finally makes it come alive for them is the dissection! They can finally see what it is that they have read about... and not just see it in a book, but see it in real life, while making connections between other parts nearby. It is amazing to see the growth during the dissections each year. They all look like little doctors, making sure that each incision is perfectly placed and each organ identified correctly. My students need 32 fetal pigs and gloves for dissection in biology class.
Without your support, my students may not have to opportunity to take part in this important experience.
This is literally their only chance at a dissection like this, because at the high school dissections have been mostly eliminated from the curriculum, except in high level science classes. Many students could fail to see the excitement in a medical field career. Please help keep this experience alive for my students. Thanks for taking the time to read my request. Can't wait to hear from you!
