My Students

Every year teachers scramble to set up and decorate their classrooms. This year I would like to facilitate a project where the students take ownership of their classroom. They will be responsible for setting up a mobile media center.

Our school is located in a high need community in New York.

Our students qualify for free lunch, indicating that their family income is below the poverty level. We are helping these students to prepare for college and life beyond. Teaching them and providing them with the necessary resources to create a sense of school pride and community is essential to making our students feel that they can make a difference in the world around them.

My Project

My parents have recently moved and have left many items in my possession. I will be donating 2 TVs and 2 VCR/DVD players to the school. Here is the situation. I would like for multiple classes to be able to access these media resources. Having the TV cart would allow this to happen. I am proposing a project where, after the TVs are loaded onto the cart, the students will design and maintain a mobile media center. They will have to create a sign out and return system for their classmates and teach each other how to manage communal property. Multiple classrooms will be able to use these mobile media centers since many teachers now use DVDs and other media in the classroom.

Your donation will help our students to form a sense of community and school pride as they design and maintain mobile media carts.

They will understand the importance of taking care of communal property. I hope that the students will then carry this knowledge outside of the classroom so that they will understand the importance of maintaining communal property in their communities.
