Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Could you imagine trying to teach history using maps that have countries that are no longer countries? I have to do this every year and it confuses my students.

We are located just across the Indiana border, next to Chicago.

A lot of my students live in poverty and many don't have experiences outside of their community. However, my students love learning about history every year. Our school district does not have money to spend on "non-essential" items, like new maps and globes.

My Project

I believe that new maps and globes will make it easier for these students to understand history. I remember the former Soviet Union and Yugoslavia, but these countries have been gone for 20 years. The students in my class don't understand how a country could be just "gone". It is hard for them to comprehend. This will make it easier.

I believe this project is important because the students at this school don't get new things often.

They are still using desks and chairs for 30 years ago. Most of the other schools in our district have been rebuilt in the last 10 years and have new things. But, not us. We only get the hand-me-downs.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
