My Students

My focus this year is technology in music. We are using several great technology programs this year to stress the importance of technology in education. Students are using glogster, animoto and windows movie maker. Our world is changing and that we as educators need to change with it.

I have a great group of kids that I am fortunate enough to work with every day.

I teach PreK-5th grade general music and Show Choir. My students attend public school in a military town in Oklahoma. Many of my students have parents overseas and look to music as an escape. It is very therapeutic. I love my students and want to give them every opportunity. With technology being the way of the future I'm looking to it as a gate for them. So many don't have access to it outside of school so I want to give them as much exposure to it as I possibly can.

My Project

I am asking for an Ipod, speaker and Little Einsteins Dvds. Currently, I run back and forth to my computer to change music this takes alot of time and I only have my students 2-3 times a week. Usually within one class I play at least 3-4 Cd selections: a movement, listening, patriotic and an integration song. Going back and forth takes valuable class time. I'm currently using an amp as a speaker and have very poor sound quality. Making even the best music sound "not so good". The Dvds go with my PE teacher and one year long theme of cultures around the world. We are calling it "Where in the World is Penny?" where Penny the dog travels across the world exploring the food, exercise and general culture. Many of the Einstein Dvds feature cultures from all over for instance, they travel to Egypt, China, etc... These could be great resources to show to the youngest of my students. They would be very much appreciated.

I believe that technology is the way of the future.

My students need to be exposed to it as much as possible in order to keep current. It changes so much and I never want them to feel behind. I have made technology my goal this year. I spent the summer going to creative technology workshops and want so much to give my students the leg up. Please help in the endeavor.
