My Students

It sure is HOT down here, but not hot enough to fire clay!

Whooo Hooo!

My students and I are overjoyed to be spending our first year in a brand new school! This year marks the fifth anniversary of Katrina, and some of our kids have never been in a school building. School has been housed in trailers until now. Our student population is 90% reduced or free lunch. Please help us "mold our future" by donating to our sculpture fund. We would greatly appreciate it!

My Project

Having a $0.00 art budget doesn't allow much room for more than pencils and copy paper. Using this molding material will allow children that aren't able to express themselves with a pencil to create to their wildest imagination. Most of my kids haven't had the opportunity to sculpt anything. My severely disabled students will revel in these artistic endeavors. During this project, I will read Greek Mythology to the students and they will be asked to create their own mythical creature. They must write a story to explain how the creature came to be. They will sketch this being and with your help we can sculpt it!

Sculpture and molding has been proved to enhance spacial skills of children.

This is important because children with good spacial skills make better grades in math and science. We would love to be able to play with clay, but we don't have a kiln to use. I have used other air drying clays, but this product is the best for what we need. Realize that many of my students' escape is our school, my art class, and I want to be able to give my kids the best while I have them.
