My Students

Do you remember creating "Art Masterpieces" as a child? Through "Art is a Part of Smart" I hope my students get to create their own "Art Masterpieces." My goal is to expose my students to different forms and mediums of art so they can find their own artistic voice.

This project is written for the second/third grade students at my school.

I am a teacher in one of the four multi-age 2/3 classrooms. We have a diverse group of students educationally, economically, and socially. Our school is a public school in an urban setting. It is an International Baccalaureate School which strives to broaden students' learning through inquiry. This project will allow students to explore different mediums of art. Students will also learn how artists enrich the culture of our community, how they can also express themselves, enrich their own lives, and the lives of others through art.

My Project

Students will be learning what art is, how art influences their lives, different forms of art, and about different artists lives. This will be done through book exploration, Internet scavenger hunts, and viewing videos. A trip to the Indianapolis Art Museum will give us further background about artists and how the period of history in which they lived or their culture affected their art work. We will also visit the Indianapolis Art Center to learn about art through the Day of the Dead alters. Painting, drawing, photography, glassblowing, ceramics, metalsmith, woodworking, and stone sculpture studios will be observed. The students will then select an art form they want to do an inquiry into and express themselves with. This grant will allow the children to have adequate supplies to experiment, explore, and investigate in creating their project. With this grant we will have access to supplies we could not afford otherwise.

Children have different talents.

Some are gifted in the area of academics, others in sports. Creativity of some sort is in all of us. This grant will allow students to explore different art forms in depth. For some this may lead to talents they did not know they had. Every individual needs ways to express themselves and share themselves with others. This project will help children find their creativity to share with others while enriching our culture.
