Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Global warming, what causes it? Fossil fuels, what is that? Renewable energy, why should we use it? These are all too common questions that every citizen deserves an answer to, especially our little citizens as they are our future leaders in the making.

My students watch and hear Al Gore talk about global warming.

They also hear adults talk about fossil fuels and the depletion of resources. They all participate on Earth Day activities. However, do they really understand why? Sadly, the answer to that question is no. The vocabulary is too foreign for them to understand, the concept is too complex, and their exposure to reality is limited. My students live in an urban environment, with little to zero opportunities outside of the classroom to explore important environmental issues at a deeper level. My school has limited funding, which means, my students have limited opportunities even in the classroom.

My Project

With your help, my students will be able to explore first hand how it is that wind can be used to power a motor. The solar and energy kits will help them discover how we can use the free never ending solar energy supply that our sun gives us to power a toy, or even a house! The possibilities are endless and they will find out through hands-on inquiry based activities in the comfort of their own classroom!

Phrases such as "go green", or, "love your mother", are not just cute phrases for the cool or the in crowd to chant just because they sound catchy, or it's the right thing to do.

No, reality is that we really are facing a crisis and awareness needs to be spread to all who occupy this Earth. What better way to begin this awareness at an early age and in the classroom. With your help, it is possible!
