To Hear Them: Listening for the Voices of the World

My Students

An old saying went, “A wise old owl sat on an oak; The more he saw the less he spoke; The less he spoke the more he heard; Why aren't we like that wise old bird?” There are so many stories out there in the world and with the right technology my students desire to hear the stories can be fulfilled.

My students are energetic junior high students who attend a small very rural public school.

Many of them never leave the area, but are fascinated by the world around them. Their community is tight and to hear the words from someone who experienced pieces of life mean more to them than any lessons I could teach them. This is why this project would so greatly help my students.

My Project

The I pods are such a valuable tool beyond the basics of listening to music. These small pieces of technology can open a student's world beyond the community they live in. They can listen and/or see the lives and stories of those who lived through key events or various world areas.

I hope that this project will help to expand my students understanding of the world.

That it may make the outside world a little less scary, but yet real at the same time. I want them to see that their communities stories also change the world that we all live in.
