My Students

Technology should be an every day part of our academic curriculum. Kids need to see that the technology they use every day outside of school also has importance and usefulness in the classroom.

I teach junior and senior level Literature classes at a thriving school district.

We are the fastest growing district in our state. Our kids are fantastic! They come from all different socioeconomic backgrounds, but they work well together and really appreciate and learn from each other.

My Project

I would love to have a ceiling mounted LCD projector of my own for my classroom. Technology is so important to kids today. They have cell phones and ipods; they text, tweet and blog all day long. However, when they step inside my classroom it's like a step back in time. I want my students to see that the resources they depend on and live with outside of school are also things that they can use and learn with in school. If they can use these same technologies in the classroom it will make the material more meaningful and relatable to them. They will have a more positive experience in school and learn more by applying the academic concepts in ways that are applicable to them in real life. One activity that I will directly use this for is a "satire unit." When I teach satire to my seniors, they will create their own satire with technology and share it with their classmates using the projector.

I know my students will greatly benefit from this resource.

The projector that is pictured is shared with everyone in school. We have to sign up in advance to use it and can only have it for a limited amount of time. As you can also see, I have a limited amount of space - when I use it, it sits on a cart directly next to students' desks and they must walk over all the cords to get around it. If I had my own, it would be there every day for their use, and be ceiling mounted out of their way.
